Long before the foundation had a logo, a launch date, or even a bank account, God brought someone into our lives by the name of Liliana Saunero-Nava. Everyone knew her simply by "Lili."

Lili had recently been diagnosed with a recurrence of ovarian cancer. She was exhausted, her body was failing her, and her future was uncertain. Yet somehow, she remained one of the most hope-filled people I've ever met. 

​

Before cancer, Lili had been a physician. Helping people wasn't simply her profession...it was who she was. Cancer may have taken away her ability to practice medicine, but it never touched her desire to care for others.

​

As we spent time together with Lili, she shared a dream she'd been carrying for years. She wanted women with cancer to have something our community didn't offer:  a place that cared for the whole person. This is exactly what Joel and I had been praying about!

 

So we stopped being perfect. We stepped forward in faith. And we named the foundation after her. Not simply beause she inspired us, but also because Lili reminded us what hope looks like.

Lili became our first Board President.

​     She helped shaped the vision.

     She challenged us.

     Encouraged us.

     Celebrated every small victory.

​

Every time someone asks why we're called Lili, I think of her.

     I think of courage.

     I think of hope.

     I think of a woman who refused to let cancer define the

     rest of her story.

     And I'm reminded that the greatest legacy we leave isn't

     always what we build ourselves.

​

Sometimes it's what we inspire others to build.

​

Our portrayal of Lili, and what our logo stands for, is the namesake of this beautiful, remarkable woman:
